Abstract

nterview with the anthropologist Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira, held in Novem ber 1999 and conducted by Priscila Faulhaber. Prof. Cardoso de Oliveira comments on anthropology vis-à- vis the other social sciences; anthropological paradigms and fieldwork; the im portance of knowing the native language; and the role of history and structure in Brazilian anthropology. He also talks about the hermeneutic paradigm and the work of post-modern anthropologists.
