Résumé

L’article présente les principales théories sur le fédéralisme et les défis théoriques et empiriques qu’affrontent les chercheurs responsables par l’analyse de ce modèle de partage territorial de gouvernement et d’autorité. Les différents degrés d’importance que chaque groupement théorique dédie aux caractéristiques clés et aux principales variables du système fédératif sont également analysés. L’article aborde aussi l’application des concepts de relations intergouvemementales et de décentralisation dans des études sur les pays fédéraux, ainsi que les possibilités de programmes de recherche sur ces sujets
