Federalism
a review of theories and concepts
Keywords:
Theories of federalism, Intergovernmental relations, DecentralizationAbstract
The paper analyzes the main theories on federalism and the analytical challenges derived from such a model of territorial division of government and authority. It also discusses how different theories approach the key characteristics and the main variables of federal systems. The concepts of intergovernmental relations and decentralization are added to the discussion of federalism, as well as the possibilities of scholarly research on these topics.
