Revisiting Development Studies

The article attempts to discuss the dilemmas and confrontations involved in the main approaches to the studies on development appeared in the middle of the last century, especially in the social sciences. Its principal concern is the investigation of the different ways of explaining and conceptualizing the process of development and the different strategies of political intervention in order to promote it. In its conclusion, the article suggests ways of overcoming some of the dilemmas in the debates revisited.
