Abstract

The article presents different perspectives on relations between social actors, focusing especially on a possible connection between social movements and political parties. Part of the literature has proven incapable of accounting for issues raised by changes in social movements, because of their increasing proximity to party guidelines, the spread of dual militancy, and the plurality of perspectives. The first part of the article addresses the contribution of different streams of sociological thought, particularly regarding the research approach to relations between social movements and political parties. The next part examines the literature on the emergence of new parties, with special emphasis placed on the emergence of a new profile party within the context of mobilizations encompassing varied interests. Lastly, the focus is placed on a group of issues related to popular mobilizations, where there are indeed connections to the party question.
