Abstract

The idea of transitional justice remains lirde studied in Brazil. This article deals with the notion of transitional justice from the perspective of the international literature on the subject. It provides a definition of the concept and analyzes its development. The article also points to the main landmarks associated with the reflection on serious human rights violations, as well as those related to the quest for justice, which emerges during transitions to democracy or at the end of conflicts. The contemporary relevance of the theme is evident in the great number of countries that have adopted one or several transitional justice approaches, and in the multiple institutions (m ainly tribunals and truth commissions) recently created.
