Soccer and social theory

highlights on the b razilian scientific production (1982-2002)

Abstract

This text aims to perform a bibliographical balance on the main papers and researches that have themed sports in the last two decades, particularly soccer, in the domain o f social sci­ences. It presents, summarily, at first, the institutional juncture in which such researches could have been worked out and, secondly, by means o f a critical paper, points at some o f the main analytical trends that propose an interpretation to the phenomenon.
