Global governance
intersections with para-diplomacy in the midst of the climatic crisis

The main goal of the article is to present the literature on global governance and para-diplomacy and its intersections within the climate change agenda. With the end of the Cold War and the development of the studies on International Relations, the traditional concepts of the discipline were put into question and new theoretical approaches started to gain more ground. In such scenario, the concepts of para-diplomacy and global governance emerged as answers to the vacuum left by the traditional theories and as possible interpretations of a more complex reality. Global governance is structured around a variety of actors, among which one can highlight local governments, addressed here by the concept of para-diplomacy. The conclusion is that the combination of the concepts of global governance and para-diplomacy presents itself as a possibility of a conceptual framework for the study of contemporary international relations.
