Dilemmas of nationalism

Abstract

This article discusses the main theoretical approaches on nationalism, highlighting the most important debates that have been taking place in the academic literature. It challenges tradi­tional dichotomies used by nationalist students, such as the primordial versus modern origins of nationalism and the difference between its civic and ethnic types. The essay then focuses on recent works that have influenced the field of nationalist studies.
