Abstract

Since the end of the Military Rule and the beginning of the transitional process towards democracy, the political study on the military received secondai)7 importance in the social science literature. Part of such lack of interest stemmed from a flawed values system. In other words, there was the belief that the military had returned to the barracks and were not able to threaten democracy anymore. Based on this perception, the Brazilian democracy was inexorably advancing toward its consolidation. This paper aims at showing different visions on the civil-military relationship after 1964. It also analyses the main publications that contributed to a better understanding of the military role in politics from the end of dictatorship until our days.
