Honorand the family in some classicviews of the shaping of brazilian society

This analysis of works by some classic authors addressing the shaping of Brazilian society reviews their interpretations of interactions between the public and private spheres. Special attention is focused on references indicating that a standard of honor or a code of moral guidelines was developed throughout colonial society, involving not only the family and relationships between clans but the State and political institutions as well.
