The contribution of institutional-normative approaches in labor studies

Abstract

With the purpose o f constructing an analytical framework for com parative studies on labor relations models, the article discusses some recent institutional or normative approaches found in different areas o f labor studies. The first part o f the text explores why these topics and approaches have recently gained esteem. Some o f the field’s lines of thought are presented in the second part: socio-economists, industrial relations analysts, and the authors o f neocorporativism. The third part takes a brief look at the Latin American and Brazilian bibliography. Lastly, the article argues that empirical studies on various aspects o f labor relations in Brazil are needed. It closes with a proposal for a model o f analysis.
