A Slice of our history
the historiography of Brazilian Anthropology
Abstract
The article paints an overview of Brazilian anthropology drawn from academic journals that address the history of this discipline in Brazil, its intellectual itinerary, and the profile and status of graduate programs. Sifting out some of the questions and issues raised in these texts, the picture that emerges is one of modern anthropological thought, that is, anthropological thought that was effectively built around the institutionalization of graduate programs in Social Anthropology, even though the discipline had already found expression earlier, through the concerns of a group of intellectuals who defined themselves as professionals in anthropology.
